SUMMARY

About

SHCIL Services Limited (SSL) is the broking arm of Stock Holding Corporation of India Limited (Stock Holding). SSL is in Stock-broking and Depository Participant (DP) business and is a member of major exchanges viz. Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), National Stock Exchange (NSE) & Multi Commodity Exchange of India Limited (MCX). SSL also acts as Depository Participant (DP) of Central Depository Services Ltd (CDSL) and National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL) is also registered with the Security and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) as Portfolio Management Services (PMS) and Research Analyst (RA).

The Challenge

SEBI had released guidelines regarding Business Continuity Plan (BCP) and Disaster Recovery (DR) sites which needs to be set up in different seismic zones to ensure the availability of the primary data center and the DR site at all time in case of a disaster. SSL’s operations are powered by ESDS’s data center in Mahape, Mumbai. They connect over 200 branches, institutional clients & other authorized persons/Sub brokers. Helping individuals with financial planning, SSL possess very crucial data and so the need for a disaster recovery site was extremely important for them.

The Solution

The most important platform offered to SSL was ESDS Banking Community Cloud (BCC) on a Virtual Private deployment model. BCC is built for the BFSI industry and comprises all the security and compliance measures of leading regulators in the Banking, Finance, and Insurance sector. The entire infrastructure which ESDS had proposed runs on an OPEX model rather CAPEX model which will save SSL’s IT budget. The DR site will instantly allow users of “SHCIL Services Ltd Limited” to connect to the DR location in case of a disaster.

The Benefit

After implementing Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS), SSL experienced a shift from capital expenditure (CAPEX) to operational expenditure (OPEX), resulting in a shorter turnaround time. ESDS took a proactive approach by detecting issues with data replication and increasing the bandwidth between the primary and DR locations to ensure smooth replication.
