When did cloud computing first become prominent?
Cloud Computing has become choice of every one and also affected many a businesses with its benefits and technology. Cloud Computing has its mark since long which was originated in 1960 by John McCarthy, who suggested that “computing may someday be organized as a public utility”. However, the term was not coined until 1997 in a lecture by Ramnath Chellappa. Cloud computing has evolved through a number of phases which include grid and utility computing, application service provision (ASP), and Software as a Service (SaaS). But the overarching concept of delivering computing resources through a global network is rooted in the sixties.
The concept of cloud hosting is not new. After the invention of cloud computing there has been many changes noticed. In the development phase it was not given that much importance as compared to others. But steadily it picked up and emerged as a boom. Later, Amazon played a key role in its development by modernizing its data centers after the dot-com bubble. This resulted in significant internal efficiency improvements and engineers could also add new features faster and easier. The Amazon Web Service (AWS) was launched in 2006.
There were many research and the basic idea of “intergalactic computer network” was introduced in sixties. In fact, much of what we do on our computers today requires it. What is changing is the way that we look at what cloud computing can actually do for us today. The power and scale of the cloud has changed immensel from what it was in the beginning. Basically it was intended to provide a wider platforms to the user which can be utilized publicly and also be resourceful. John McCarthy who proposed the idea of computation being delivered as a public utility, similar to the service bureaus which date back to the sixties.
There has been many changes and advanced developments since sixties in the concept of cloud hosting. As a part of the today’s need of changing world and the considering the scenario cloud services has become most crucial part of the IT environment. Since the sixties, cloud computing has developed along a number of lines, with Web 2.0 being the most recent evolution. However, since the internet only started to offer significant bandwidth in the nineties, cloud computing for the masses has been something of a late developer. The personal computer as we understand it today is no dummy terminal. In fact, the rise of the Internet beginning in the mid-90s changed how computers could be used and how information could be disseminated. With the idea of utility computing long gone, companies such as Amazon began to harness the power of server farms to offer a gaggle of products to would-be buyers.
