The X11 allows taking GUI access over SSH to any of the LINUX or UNIX systems to run any application\/program in GUI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color\"><strong>There are few things that needs to be taken care of:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>1.<\/strong> Make sure the X11Forwarding is enabled in the ssh_config file. In Linux, the SSH terminal supports X forwarding by default however for MAC or UNIX (HPUX, AIX, etc..) OS you need to enable by making changes in the config file.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The ssh_config file typically located at <code><strong>\/etc\/ssh\/ssh_config<\/strong><\/code> or <strong><code>~\/.ssh\/config<\/code>)<\/strong>. Check If <strong><code>ssh_config<\/code> includes <code>#X11Forwarding no<\/code><\/strong> OR <code><strong>X11Forwarding no.<\/strong> Make sure it should be <strong>X11Forwarding yes<\/strong> in your <\/code><strong><code>ssh_config file<\/code>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color\"><strong>Steps: \u00a0#Vi \/etc\/ssh\/ssh_config\u00a0 or Vi \/etc\/ssh\/sshd_config<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center has-light-green-cyan-background-color has-background\"><strong><em>Make sure X11forwarding is yes<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery columns-1 is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\"><ul class=\"blocks-gallery-grid\"><li class=\"blocks-gallery-item\"><figure><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"255\" height=\"24\" src=\"https:\/\/www.esds.co.in\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/X11-ForwardingYES-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" data-id=\"5237\" data-full-url=\"https:\/\/www.esds.co.in\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/X11-ForwardingYES-1.jpg\" data-link=\"https:\/\/www.esds.co.in\/kb\/?attachment_id=5237\" class=\"wp-image-5237\"\/><\/figure><\/li><\/ul><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>2.<\/strong> You must have X Server running on your Laptop\/Computer, the X Server manages the interaction between the remote server ( X Client ) and your laptop\/computer. You can download and install <a href=\"https:\/\/sourceforge.net\/projects\/xming\/\">Xming\u00a0<\/a>on your system. Password.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color\"><em><span class=\"has-inline-color has-pale-cyan-blue-color\"><strong>It will auto-set<\/strong><\/span><\/em> the DISPLAY Variable for this session, which you can check by using the <em><span class=\"has-inline-color has-pale-cyan-blue-color\"><strong>#echo $DISPLAY command.<\/strong><\/span><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>5.<\/strong> Once you are logged in to the server then execute xclock command, it will open-up xclock in pop-up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"168\" height=\"197\" src=\"https:\/\/www.esds.co.in\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Xclock.jpg\" alt=\"How to configure X11 Display in LINUX or UNIX 5\" class=\"wp-image-5243\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-green-cyan-color\">You are done \ud83d\ude42<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-pale-pink-background-color has-text-color has-background\"><strong><span class=\"has-inline-color has-black-color\">Known Issues in Setting-up DISPLAY or its environment variable.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-red-color\">Error: Can&#8217;t open display<\/span><\/em><\/strong> \u00a0OR <strong><em><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-red-color\">Error: Can&#8217;t open display: localhost:0.0<\/span><\/em><\/strong> ==> <em>This issue occurs when DISPLAY is not or not correctly configured. You can crosscheck using the below command:<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color\">#echo $DISPLAY<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"224\" height=\"22\" src=\"https:\/\/www.esds.co.in\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Cant-open-DISPLAY.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5244\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"334\" height=\"19\" src=\"https:\/\/www.esds.co.in\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Cant-open-DISPLAY-for-localhost.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5245\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.esds.co.in\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Cant-open-DISPLAY-for-localhost.jpg 334w, https:\/\/www.esds.co.in\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Cant-open-DISPLAY-for-localhost-300x17.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 334px) 100vw, 334px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color\">If it shows \u201c<span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-red-color\">DISPLAY: Undefined variable<\/span>.\u201d That means the DISPLAY Variable is not set.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.esds.co.in\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/Undefined-veriable.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5246\" width=\"575\" height=\"48\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-vivid-green-cyan-color has-text-color\"><strong><em>Solution<\/em><\/strong>:: Either configure\/set it manually using the below command or simply follow all the <strong><em>above 5 steps to configure the DISPLAY.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color\">Export DISPLAY=localhost:0.0&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; OR &nbsp;&nbsp;setenv DISPLAY localhost:0.0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><span class=\"has-inline-color has-black-color\">DISPLAY is properly configured xclock is also opening however when trying to open any X-based<\/span> Application then shows below error \u00e8 It\u2019s an<span class=\"has-inline-color has-black-color\"> X11Forwarding issue while authentication.<\/span><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-red-color\"><em>Xlib: connection to &#8220;localhost:14.0&#8221; refused by server<\/em><br \/><em>Xlib: PuTTY X11 proxy: wrong authentication protocol attempted<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong><em>OR<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-red-color\">X11 connection was rejected because of wrong authentication.<br \/>X connection to localhost:14.0 broken (explicit kill or server shutdown).<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"644\" height=\"46\" src=\"https:\/\/www.esds.co.in\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/X11-Forwarding-Issue.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5247\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.esds.co.in\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/X11-Forwarding-Issue.jpg 644w, https:\/\/www.esds.co.in\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/X11-Forwarding-Issue-300x21.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 644px) 100vw, 644px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-vivid-green-cyan-color has-text-color\"><strong><em>Solution: Edit \/etc\/opt\/ssh\/ssh_config OR \/etc\/opt\/ssh\/sshd_config, add\/modify X11UseLocalhost no.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.esds.co.in\/kb\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/X11Uselocalhost-NO.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-5248\" width=\"578\" height=\"70\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color\">Re-run your application, It will work J.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><span class=\"has-inline-color has-pale-cyan-blue-color\">Don&#8217;t forget to comment if it solves your issue and if it doesn&#8217;t<\/span><\/em> then mention the <em><span class=\"has-inline-color has-pale-cyan-blue-color\">error will try to assist further.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>If you are using Windows Desktop \/ Laptop and wanted to run a GUI application on LINUX or UNIX System then you need to use X11.
