VNC (Virtual Network Computing) is a broadly used graphical desktop-sharing system that enables users to remotely access and control the desktop interface of one computer from another device.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this guide, we will explain how to install and configure a\u00a0VNC Server\u00a0on a\u00a0Ubuntu 14.04<\/p>\n\n\n\n

But wait! Before you begin with this guide, there are a couple of steps that required to be performed first.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You will require an Ubuntu 14.04 server installed and configured with a non-root user that has\u00a0sudo<\/code>privileges. Once you have the non-root user, you can use it to SSH into your Ubuntu server and proceed with the installation process of your VNC server as below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Let’s see the step by step procedure-<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 1: <\/strong>Install Ubuntu desktop that helps VNC to load efficiently. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the end of your installation, you\u2019ll get a prompt window to select between gdm3<\/strong> and lightDM<\/strong> as your Gnome display manager. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Note:<\/strong> Gdm3 is the default Gnome 3 desktop environment greeter. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

LightDM is a lighter and faster version of the same greeter system. Use the   Tab<\/strong> \u21b9 key to select, and press \u21b5 Enter or \u23ce Return to confirm. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 2:<\/strong> To install VNC on your system use the below command. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 3: <\/strong>To perform configuration changes in vncserver and add the  installed  desktop  packages use the commands<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now, to start the VNC session type the command \"VNC You will be prompted for creating a new VNC password. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 5: <\/strong>To check the VNC server has started, kindly check if the port 5901<\/strong> is running and listening in the \"VNC<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If the firewall is active, you need to open ports for inbound communication. If no firewall is enabled, you can simply skip this section.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 7: <\/strong>Try to access the login details in the VNC viewer on a local machine, i.e, Host & password as shown in the below screenshot. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\/\/Set the password to access this server using VNC viewer (you may keep the same password). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\/\/ switch user root.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Please check for the processes running for the concern user test2. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

So in the  VNC  viewer simply add the host as >> 115.124.111.184:3<\/strong>  and the password for the concerned user.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
