Putty has loads of features; it\u2019s a famous client to establish SSH connections from Windows machines to Linux servers. However, it\u2019s not limited to this only; you also use it for Telnet, Rlogin, Serial, etc\u2026 Putty is certainly one of the best tools used by many of our system admins!<\/p>\n

But then, there are many tools to centralize terminals and configurations such as MTPuTTY, however, it\u2019s also helpful to have a list of shortcuts available quickly (for example, on the desktop or in a folder) and that open a terminal to a specific server with prerequisite parameters.<\/p>\n

In this article, we are going to learn how to create a Putty shortcut in windows. Let\u2019s check it out.<\/p>\n

Step 1: To\u00a0 Create Windows Shortcut<\/strong><\/p>\n

Start by creating a windows shortcut.<\/p>\n

Right-click<\/strong>\u00a0the Desktop, select\u00a0New<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Shortcut<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n

Step 2:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then, click\u00a0Browse<\/strong>\u00a0and navigate to the PuTTY folder.

It\u2019s usually located in\u00a0C:\\Program Files\\PuTTY.exe<\/strong>\u00a0or\u00a0C:\\Program Files (x86)\\PuTTY.exe<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 3: <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Select\u00a0putty.exe<\/strong>, then click\u00a0OK<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Next<\/strong>.

Enter a name for your shortcut. E.g.\u00a0MyLinux<\/strong>\u00a0and click\u00a0Finish<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step 4: Edit\u00a0Shortcut.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

To Edit shortcut, Right-click<\/strong>\u00a0on your new shortcut and click on \u00a0Properties<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Take note of the\u00a0Target<\/strong>\u00a0field. It shows the path to putty.exe in Program Files. We are going to add a switch to this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After<\/strong>\u00a0the double quotes, paste in\u00a0the following shown below. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

You need to Replace\u00a0abc<\/strong>\u00a0with your username,\u00a0192.0.2.255<\/strong> with your server IP<\/strong> and\u00a0PSSwd<\/strong>\u00a0with your own new password. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

After that, the\u00a0Target<\/strong>\u00a0field should now look something like this. (Note: Your path may differ depending on where the putty.exe<\/strong> is installed.) <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Then click OK <\/strong>and that\u2019s it! You\u2019re done!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also, do you know, you can create Putty shortcut and putty session at the same time! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

To Create Putty shortcut and putty session together- Add the Path in the create shortcut window<\/strong> and click Next<\/strong> as shown below. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now add Session name<\/strong> and click Finish<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

You are Done. Its that simple.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now when you double-click the shortcut it will bring you straight into your Linux server without having to enter username or password. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
