Virtualization Of SAP (NetWeaver + eNlight)

Before the concept of Hosted SAP / ERP or Cloud was created, it was a common practice to install database services and SAP on a "fixed" dedicated server. A single IP address was used for the host server, database server and each SAP Instance. Such solutions had limitations where it was very difficult to move away the servers from the host server. The concept of Cloud and Virtualization introduced the concept of virtual IP addresses as well as adaptors. The same technology is used to deliver a highly efficient platform for hosted SAP / ERP model and is one of the fundamental pillars enabling the entire solution to be called as “Dynamic Datacenter Infrastructure Solution”.

ESDS hosted SAP / ERP solution is compliant with the SAP Adaptive Computing Controller (ACC). The solution is based on SAP NetWeaver and fully integrated with SAP ACC to provide a standardized virtualization layer. This allows the users to enjoy the advantages of all released SAP services, manage their SAP services with additional benefits like; start / stop a complete landscape with one click, task planners etc through the SAP’s standard user interface along with the access to NetWeaver Administrator & SAP Solution Manager for administration and support. Depending on the requirement, an optional feature to integrate SAP ACC with Autonomous Agents is enabled which allows users to control the agents through stand SAP interface. Therefore it is easy to manage the landscape from single interface whereas the agents assure the availability SAP / ERP services.

Multiple Layers of Virtualization

Apart from the NetWeaver virtualizations already being integrated, there is an option to add another layer of virtualization above it. It can be either VMware or any other platform that supports x86 technology. This makes it possible for a SAP application to start on any virtual machine or a dedicated server in the same pool. With such kind of environment, a SAP application can float across the pool providing high level of flexibility and availability. With eNlight, there is also a possibility for resources to easily scale as per the requirement.
