High Availability

There is a special technology being used to maintain the high availability of the SAP hosted environment. These are special bots / application installed on every hardware component called Autonomous Agents. These agents are further bifurcated into components like control agents and application agents, they together monitor the functionality of hardware as well as software and can make necessary changes to ensure the high availability of the solution, in case of any failures.

The power to intervene into a failure by these agents is a very important feature of the entire solution. This in return adds power of automation to the end user, since it enables automatic repair of almost all known problems. A few intervention mechanisms are:

  • Check health of the service; restart it in case of errors.
  • Check health of nodes; restart / reboot node in case of errors.
  • In case of critical errors, move operations to another node and restart / reboot / shutdown the former node
  • In case of severe damage, Power-Off the node
  • Prioritize services if needed.
  • Start and stop services whenever they are required or not required.

Spare Application Nodes

Unlike the legacy concept of having a separate spare node for every service, our Hosted Solution can have any number of spare nodes in the infrastructure. The spare node can be used to back up any node within the cluster and can anytime become an additional resource whenever the system requires it in spikes. This is a true definition of cloud where the applications and software are not hardware dependent but can easily float from one node to another. We define them as a group of servers rather than a cluster because every server can become a spare server or a stand-in server in case of a failure or high consumption of resources. However, a proper algorithm is followed to calculate the required SAPs power request or number of SAP services before configuring the hardware in the system. The concept of shared OS has made it convenient to provide such valuable redundancy to our customers.

Recently the controls have been developed in such a way that they can prioritize services on node. For example, it will shut down a low priority service to free resources in case a high priority services require them or even move services on spare node for increasing the performance at the peak hours and put it back in non peak hours. This feature of our offering is the key that explains the true concept of Hosted or Cloud Based SAP / ERP.
