Why Online Backup?
Backing up all your mission critical data is one of the most important things you can remember to do. Without a good backup option, if the worst happens, chances are you may lose out on all your important data. Thankfully, ESDS provides a managed, cost effective solution when it comes to backing up your mission critical data.
ESDS PetaSafe is fast, incremental, and cloud-ready backup solution which is based on Lustre file system. Lustre file systems are used in computer clusters ranging from small workgroup clusters to large-scale, multi-site clusters. Lustre file systems can support up to tens of thousands of client systems, petabytes (PBs) of storage and hundreds of gigabytes per second (GB/s) of I/O throughput. Due to Lustre's high scalability, we at ESDS have successfully deployed this file system in our datacenter.
Some of the key features of ESDS PetaSafe are as follows :-
Protocol :- Configured backup data is transferred between client system and the backup device using HTTP/HTTPS protocol which is standard protocol allowed from firewall in most corporates. Backing up data doesn't require any different port to open the corporate firewall.
Scheduling :- Backups can be scheduled as and when required to allow the client software to backup data at the scheduled time. Scheduling can be integrated with Windows scheduler or Linux cron jobs.
Incremental :- Backup client software copies only those files which have been changed since the last backup. This not only saves time but also helps to save bandwidth.
Roaming Access :- With HTTP/HTTPs protocol and user authentication, users can access their backed up files from anywhere if required. This allows roaming users to access data whenever required even if they are out of office.
Versioning :- Multiple versions of files can be maintained and files of these multiple versions can be retrieved anytime. For critical application availability, different versions of files always helps to restore critical data from different working states.
Notification :- Backup client software can be configured to send email notifications whenever a backup is completed with the result including list of files backed up. There is no need to monitor the backup process at all times.
Security (Encryption) :- Though client can transfer files using HTTPS protocol which is secure, client software can also be configured to encrypt files using strong AES encryption while taking backup. Once the files are encrypted, they can't be accessed without a password. This ensures security of data to customers.
